JULIAN MARLEY IN CONCERT JULY 14TH AT PINEAPPLE GROOVE
Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Bob Marley’s Passing
JULIAN MARLEY has dedicated his life to spreading reggae around the world. Born in London in 1975, he has been blessed by great talent, legacy and by the unique perspective that comes with an upbringing in such a multicultural community. Julian recorded his first demo tape at the age of five in his father's recording studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Bob Marley died aged 35, in 1981, when Julian was just six years old.
"The memory of my dad that really stands out for me is seeing him at a rock concert at Crystal Palace in 1980, " recalls Julian. "There was a real electric atmosphere and when I went backstage to see him there was a lot of excitement. I only saw him briefly before he had to be on his way to his next gig. He was always in demand…I think my father's spirit lives on in all his children."
The message in Julian’s music echoes the inspirational themes in his father’s music as well. His songs tell stories of oppression and injustice, but the overwhelming message remains one of hope, love, and optimism.
“For many years, we've been lost in our tears, When will we wake? We've got to wake. Ay!! For many years, the prophets have spoken, but will we hear? And still we can't find, no peace of mind.
When will we wake? We've got to wake.””
